A top administrative cybersecurity functionary, on October 12, cleared up that the country will not confront any web power cut, annulling worries of a web shutdown in the nation amid news of a worldwide outage.
Previously, Russia Today had stated that web users crosswise the world may go through extensive network failures because of routine repairs of major domain servers within the next 48 hours.
While talking to media people, Gulshan Rai, National Cyber Security Coordinator, stated, “All arrangements are in place and there will be no internet shutdown in India as is being circulated in the media.”
As per Russia Today news, the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN will fulfil repairs work during the 48 hours by altering the cryptographic key, which aids defend the web’s address book or the Domain Name System (DNS).
This has been required to counter the growing events of cyber attacks, Russia Today mentioned ICANN as saying.
But, afterwards, ICANN elucidated that the report had a “clickbait” headline and that the impact on web users would be negligible.
As per an ICANN representative, “Unfortunately, that story carries a headline that is a click bait. There will be minimal impact to users. Note that data analysis suggests that more than 99% of users whose resolvers are validating will be unaffected.”
The representative further added up, “It has been about 20 hours since the rollover and based on all the information we have, everything is going smoothly. There have been only a small handful of reports of issues suspected to be caused by the rollover. In all cases, it appears the impact was minor and the issues were quickly resolved.”
The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) saying that the worldwide web closure was necessary for ensuring a safe, steady and strong Domain Name System.
“To further clarify, some internet users might be affected if their network operators or Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have not prepared for this change. However, this impact can be avoided by enabling the appropriate system security extensions,” it said.
