Cristiano Ronaldo Wins Hearts As He Came Forward To Help Injured Cavani Who Scored Goals Against Portugal

FIFA World Cup fever is currently high in the world and fans are going crazy with the unexpected match results. Argentina and Portugal have already been knocked out on the first day of the round of 16 by France and Uruguay respectively.

France beat Lionel Messi-led Argentina 4-3 in the last-16 opener while Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal succumbed to a 2-1 defeat against Uruguay hours later. Cavani curled home a superb 62nd-minute winner to settle a thrilling last-16 tie and send Uruguay into a quarter-final against France next Friday.

However, later the sight of Cavani limping off started raising a question mark over his fitness for the last-eight showdown with the French in Nizhny Novgorod.

As soon as Ronaldo saw this, he came to the aid of Cavani, assisting him off the field so he could receive treatment. With time running out for trailing Portugal, Ronaldo could have been justifiably angry, frustrated or simply not focused on an injured opponent.

This has won hearts of the social media and people just can’t stop praising Ronaldo. Have a look at some tweets.

Actor Randeep Hooda wrote, “You can be rivals but not necessarily enemies .. the best examples of sportsmanship #Legends all the way Ronaldo – Cavani .. Messi – Mbappe #FifaWorldCup18 #URUPOR #FRAARG”

Another user wrote, “Portugal has lost the match against Uruguay but Ronaldo has won millions of hearts by helping injured Cavani who scored goals against Portugal. True gentleman ..”

Another user wrote, “Cavani on Ronaldo, ‘We’ve played against the best player in the world. He is always going to be an idol for me.” A class show of sportsmanship by Cristiano Ronaldo! #Respect #URUPOR #worldcup2018.”

Uruguay will need him as they march on, his partnership in attack with Luis Suarez combining with a formidable defense that is arguably the best in international football. Meanwhile, European champions Portugal go home, Ronaldo and Lionel Messi bowing out of the competition on the same day. This has surely made many people sad but Ronaldo’s gesture won the hearts.
