Pregnant Woman in Kerala Kicked on Stomach by ‘CPM Activists’, Loses her baby

On January 28, seven pro-left activists including a local leader of the state’s ruling party (Communist Party of India-Marxist) deliberately entered the woman’s house and started beating and thrashing her husband. When the woman tried to stop them, one of the activists kicked the 4-month pregnant woman in the stomach after which she started bleeding.

The woman, identified as Josana Sibby was then rushed to the hospital where she was forced for an abortion. The police have reported that the attack was the result of a dispute between neighbours over land.

The woman had called the police 15 minutes before the attack. On February 4, the family of the woman filed a complaint regarding the assault on the woman. But the family has withdrawn the complaint following the extreme pressure. Reportedly, the woman was threatened by an activist to chop off her husband’s legs.

All the seven activists including the leader of the local party have been arrested. However, CPM has denied being connected to the incident in any way.

This is not the first time that a pregnant woman is assaulted. Earlier a woman was forced to deliver the child to the entrance gate of a Community health centre after she was denied being admitted to the hospital for not having Aadhar Card.
