The world celebrates International Literacy Day on September 8 every year. It was declared by UNESCO in the year 1966. The day specifically highlights the importance of literacy in the life of an individual, for the growth of the society and the country as a whole. If we talk about India, Kerala is the only state to have reached 100% literacy rate. And as a whole, India’s literacy rate is 72.1%.
