Who knew a girl from the tribal area of the Maoist-affected zone of Sukma would make it to the Medical college and that too without any coaching or a clue about where her admission fees would come from. The 19 years old girl, Maya Kashyap said “It was my childhood dream to become a doctor. I am glad that I have come this far,” to a leading daily- The Times of India.

This is a big deal for a tribal girl like Maya to get a seat in a medical college as barely there are just 3,000 children to get admission in primary education in Dornapal – that too in hostels. Schools in the Village like where Maya studied, hardly can get to see the teacher in the schools. Hence, it is a big win for Maya and she also become the inspiration for many girls like her. It is even harder for Maya as her father passed away nine years ago.

When asked about how she managed to overcome her hurdles, she said: “I never looked at the obstacles. I only saw my goals.”

“For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a doctor. After my father died, it became almost impossible to continue with my studies. But I never gave up. I could not give up on my dream,” she said.

AS she cracked the NEET exam, her family was very happy and also worried about the fees as MBBS’s colleges’ fees are usually high. Her elder brother Anup took a loan from a friend while her sister-in-law Ratna Kashyap collected money from relatives.

Talking about the tough time Maya said, “My mother had to take care of three siblings, besides myself. They, too, were in school. Due to lack of money, I faced a lot of hardship while preparing for NEET, but that did not deter me.”

The girl didn’t even go to the coaching classes to clear the exams and studied on her own. Maya talking about the same said, “I want to return to my area and serve my people. The interiors regions are deprived of basic medical facilities”.
