Everything about royal families should be royal since they are very much concerned about their prestige. We have seen royal families getting hitched to a person of their standard. It is rare to see a royal family member getting married to a commoner or anyone from a non-royal background.

However, things are not the same with Japan’s Royal Family where Japan’s Princess Ayako has become the third Japanese princess to sacrifice her royal life. Yes, you heard it right! The princess went on to marry a commoner giving up her royal title.

The 27-year-old is all set to marry a shipping worker Kei Moriya aged 32, in October this year.

Well, Ayako is not the first one to marry a commoner. Before her, two years ago, her cousin Princess Mak aged 26, went on to marry a paralegal Kei Momuro giving up her royal status.

In the year 2014, Princess Ayako’s older sister, Princess Noriko, also went on to marry a commoner named Kunimaro Senge and left the royal family.

Princess Ayako will have to leave the Japanese royal family as soon as she gets married.

Britian’s Prince William and Prince Harry both married commoners Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle respectively but remained in the British Royal Family.

As per the Japanese imperial law, a princess will have to leave the Royal Family when she gets married to a commoner. However, this law is not applicable to male members of the Japanese Royal Family.

But Princess Ayako will receive a bonus payment expected to be around a million pounds.

Talking about Princess Ayako’s love story, she met her husband-to-be Kei Moriya, who is working for shipping company NYK Line, through her mother, Princess Takamodo, in December last year.

Princess Ayako is the youngest daughter of Emperor Akihito’s late cousin Prince Takamado.

Ayako said, “He proposed to me this year having a dinner at a restaurant. It was very sudden, so I asked to hold for my answer.”

She further said, “As we have deepened the relationship including our family, friends and related people, I came to the decision and accepted this proposal.”

The couple will officially get engaged on 12^th August and will get married at Tokyo’s Meiji Jingu shrine on 29^th October.

The princess revealed how she fell for Kei’s kind, smart and decisive personality.

She said. “I don’t know what my mother’s intentions were in introducing him to me, but as the two of us went to various places together and shared our time and memories, we became naturally drawn to each other.”

She concluded, “I think we were able to come this far thanks to the wonderful ties started by our mothers.”

When Princess Ayako and Mr Moriya get married, the Japanese Royal Family will only consist of 17 members.
