Gurdip Punjj will play Shaheer Sheikh’s Mother In Mughal-E-Azam

Shaheer Sheikh, an actor of the small screen got fame from his last daily soap Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi. And, now he is ready to make a comeback on screen from the historical drama Mughal-E-Azam. Pretty exciting! And, now the mother of Shaheer in the serial has been finalized.  Gurdip Punjj aka Gurdip Kohli is to play the role of his mother in the historical drama. She will be seen in the avatar of queen Jodha.

When she was asked about her new role in the serial that if she is an apprehensive playing mother to a grown-up actor, Gurdip replied, “Not at all. I have no such qualms. Though the age difference isn’t much, I have worked for more years than Shaheer. People have seen me mature as an actor, so they offer me roles keeping that in mind. Also, this is a historical show and we know that women would get married at an early age back then. It’s a strong character and I am too excited to play the part. I am a mother of two in real life and so, maternal love comes naturally to me. That makes it easier to portray my character with conviction.”

Gurdip is little different from other actresses, she prefers playing mother to a son and said: “I prefer playing mother to a son than a daughter. That’s because a mom’s track often ends abruptly on shows after the daughter’s marriage. I think about all these aspects before taking up a role.”

However, to play the role of Anarkali, several actresses have been screen tested but Sonarika Bhadoria has finalized. As per the source said: “Several actresses were considered for the part, but when we thought of Sonarika, we realized that she fit the bill perfectly. While things have been formalized verbally, she is yet to sign on the dotted line.”

On the professional front, we have seen her last in the ALT Balaji’s Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain With Ronit Roy and Mona Singh.
